Fellowship Guidelines
Notice for the 2009 - 2011 Research Fellowship Program.
At this point it has been put on hold as we are endeavouring to garner larger support which we are hoping will occur in the latter part of the year. At that time we will send out letters to the community and we will update our website with the application information. Please let us know if you would like to be added to our mailing list so we can advise you personally of the details.

Information and Guidelines for the Primary Investigator’s Application
Lymphoma Foundation Canada (“LFC”) is a national organization dedicated to raising funds to support research and patient education in the field of malignant lymphoproliferative diseases and related disorders in Canada. Background information, the Board of Directors, the Scientific Advisory Board and description of activities can be found at www.lymphoma.ca.
Funds for Research Fellowship support will be awarded solely on the basis of scientific merit. The Research Fellowship award will be made in two steps.
1. The initial application must come from the Primary Investigator (Research Fellowship Supervisor) of the planned Research Fellowship project. The Scientific Advisory Board will review all applications and select the Primary Investigator and Primary Investigating Institution to which the Research Fellowship will be awarded.
2. The Primary Investigator of the awarded Research Fellowship will then identify a suitable Research Fellow to perform the proposed research project. The Primary Investigator cannot also be named as the Research Fellow.
The intention of the LFC Scientific Advisory Board in this process is to identify the most promising scientific research project based on the merit of the proposed research, the qualifications of the Primary Investigator and the Primary Investigating Institution. The Primary Investigator will then identify the named Research Fellow based on his or her assessment of the best potential candidate to successfully complete the intended project.
To qualify for funding the Primary Investigator must have an appointment at a Canadian university or provincial cancer treatment center and must have the support of that institution to provide an environment conducive to successful completion of the planned research project.
All presentations and publications resulting from LFC support should acknowledge the support of Lymphoma Foundation Canada.
The Research Fellowship will be awarded for two years and will consist of an annual salary stipend of $45,000 plus $7,500 annually to support travel, publication and laboratory supply costs.
Please refer to the Lymphoma Foundation Canada Research Fellowship guidelines below for more details.
Information and Guidelines for the Identification of the Research Fellow
The person best able to identify the Research Fellow for a specific research project is the Primary Investigator of that project. Thus, the LFC Research Fellowship will be awarded to the Primary Investigator with the understanding that he or she will in turn identify an appropriate Research Fellow and use the Research Fellowship funding to support the Research Fellow in the performance of the planned project, providing the supervision and mentoring necessary for its successful completion. While the actual choice of the Research Fellow will be left to the discretion of the Primary Investigator, it will be the responsibility of the Primary Investigator to choose a Research Fellow with the appropriate combination of training and preparation to maximize the likelihood of successful completion of the planned project. The Research Fellow must have an academic appointment at the Primary Investigating Institution. The process for choosing the Research Fellow will be left to the discretion of the Primary Investigator but must be completed by x with the understanding that the Research Fellow will begin the Research Fellowship no later than x.
The Research Fellow must spend a minimum of 80% of his/her time in research without major patient care, teaching, or administrative responsibilities, except as such responsibilities relate directly to the proposed research project. The LFC Research Fellow may not hold another competitively applied for Fellowship title during the period of the LFC Research Fellowship. However, LFC grants may be supplemented by funds from other sources. The LFC must be informed as to the sources and the amounts of all other funding received by the LFC Research Fellow during the term of the LFC Research Fellowship. Failure to comply may result in termination of the LFC Research Fellowship.
If for any reason the Research Fellow cannot complete the full two-year Research Fellowship, the Research Fellowship may be put on hold for a period up to four months while a new Research Fellow is identified. If a Research Fellow is not replaced, payment will cease from the date of departure and the funding for the remainder of the Research Fellowship will revert to the LFC to be disposed of as thought best by the Board of Directors consistent with the mission of furthering research into lymphoproliferative neoplasms. Similarly, if for any reason the Primary Investigator cannot complete the supervision of the full two-year Research Fellowship, the Research Fellowship will be terminated and the funding for the remainder of the Research Fellowship will revert to the LFC to be disposed of as thought best by the Board of Directors consistent with the mission of furthering research into lymphoproliferative neoplasms.
Please refer to the Lymphoma Foundation Canada Research Fellowship guidelines below for more details.
