On peut y recourir pour traiter un ganglion lymphatique, la rate ou tout autre organe hypertrophi\u00e9 (enfl\u00e9) qui bloque la fonction d\u2019une partie du corps \u00e0 proximit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Pour d\u00e9truire les cellules canc\u00e9reuses, la radioth\u00e9rapie utilise des rayons X \u00e0 haute \u00e9nergie, comme ceux qui servent \u00e0 prendre des clich\u00e9s. Les rayons X causent des dommages \u00e0 l\u2019ADN (mat\u00e9riel g\u00e9n\u00e9tique) de la cellule canc\u00e9reuse et l\u2019emp\u00eachent de se r\u00e9parer, provoquant ainsi sa mort.<\/p>\n<p>Les radiations n\u2019affectent pas uniquement les cellules canc\u00e9reuses. Les cellules saines de cette r\u00e9gion sont \u00e9galement d\u00e9truites. Par cons\u00e9quent, on veille toujours \u00e0 planifier les traitements de mani\u00e8re \u00e0 prot\u00e9ger le mieux possible les autres parties du corps. Les r\u00e9gions saines sont prot\u00e9g\u00e9es des rayonnements \u00e0 l\u2019aide de boucliers en plomb semblables \u00e0 ceux qu\u2019utilise votre dentiste pour prendre des radiographies.
