La th\u00e9rapie par lymphocytes T porteurs de r\u00e9cepteurs antig\u00e9niques chim\u00e9riques, ou th\u00e9rapie CAR T-cell, est une nouvelle option de traitement pour les patients atteints d\u2019un lymphome. Ce type d\u2019immunoth\u00e9rapie am\u00e9liore l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 des cellules T d\u2019un patient, lesquelles jouent un r\u00f4le primordial dans la r\u00e9ponse immunitaire en reconnaissant les cellules sp\u00e9cifiques du cancer dans l\u2019organisme pour les attaquer et les d\u00e9truire.<\/p>\n

L\u2019utilisation de la CAR T-cell est actuellement autoris\u00e9e au Canada pour traiter le lymphome diffus \u00e0 grandes cellules B r\u00e9cidivant ou r\u00e9fractaire. Cette th\u00e9rapie, apte \u00e0 changer la vie des patients, leur apporte de l\u2019espoir lorsque leurs options th\u00e9rapeutiques sont limit\u00e9es. Or, saviez-vous que la CAR T-cell ne fait pas l\u2019objet de financement dans toutes les provinces canadiennes? Cela signifie que certaines personnes sont incapables de recevoir ce traitement. \u00c0 l\u2019heure actuelle, la th\u00e9rapie CAR T-cell, uniquement financ\u00e9e en Ontario et au Qu\u00e9bec, a \u00e9t\u00e9 approuv\u00e9e en Alberta. Son accessibilit\u00e9 se limite \u00e9galement \u00e0 certains centres dans chaque province. De plus, seul un nombre limit\u00e9 de patients peut recevoir ce traitement sur une base mensuelle, retardant ainsi leur acc\u00e8s au traitement. Les patients dont le lymphome est \u00e0 un stade avanc\u00e9 doivent non seulement attendre qu\u2019une place se lib\u00e8re, mais ils doivent en plus se rendre dans une autre province ou parfois m\u00eame aux \u00c9tats-Unis pour recevoir leur traitement. Le fardeau financier li\u00e9 aux frais de d\u00e9placement et d\u2019h\u00e9bergement pour b\u00e9n\u00e9ficier de cette th\u00e9rapie, rendue encore plus difficile d\u2019acc\u00e8s pour les patients immunod\u00e9prim\u00e9s durant la pand\u00e9mie de la COVID-19, complique davantage les d\u00e9placements vers les centres de traitements.<\/p>\n

Un article, r\u00e9dig\u00e9 par l\u2019ancienne pr\u00e9sidente du conseil d\u2019administration de Lymphome Canada, souligne les in\u00e9galit\u00e9s auxquelles se heurtent les Canadiens atteints d\u2019un lymphome qui cherchent \u00e0 obtenir cette th\u00e9rapie innovante et susceptible d\u2019am\u00e9liorer leur qualit\u00e9 de vie.<\/a> L\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la th\u00e9rapie CAR T-cell en Colombie-Britannique aurait pu changer le cours du traitement du mari de notre ancienne pr\u00e9sidente et donner au couple la perspective d\u2019un avenir diff\u00e9rent. Il est inacceptable de voir tant de patients, dont l\u2019avenir aurait pu \u00eatre diff\u00e9rent gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 cette th\u00e9rapie, en \u00eatre priv\u00e9s \u00e0 cause des contraintes financi\u00e8res provinciales et du manque de disponibilit\u00e9 du traitement.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 Lymphome Canada, nous sommes conscients de la complexit\u00e9 du processus de d\u00e9cision li\u00e9 \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation de nouvelles infrastructures pour administrer un nouveau type de th\u00e9rapie contre le cancer. Mais il est \u00e9vident que les processus actuels ne r\u00e9pondent pas aux besoins des Canadiens, partout au pays, car ce traitement reste largement hors de leur port\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Veuillez vous joindre \u00e0 nous en \u00e9crivant au ministre de la Sant\u00e9 de votre province pour plaider en faveur de l\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la th\u00e9rapie CAR T-cell. Il s\u2019agit l\u00e0 d\u2019une \u00e9tape importante dans la r\u00e9alisation de la vision de Lymphome Canada, celle d\u2019une vie non limit\u00e9e par le lymphome.<\/p>\n
