25 Years of Lymphoma Awareness

For the past 25 years Lymphoma Canada has raised awareness about lymphoma, its symptoms, diagnostics, and available treatments. It is important for Canadians to know what to look for and to understand just how prevalent lymphoma is.

Lymphoma Canada provides free resources about lymphoma to support the over 100,000 Canadians who are currently living with or in remission from lymphoma.

  • It is estimated that over 14,175 Canadians are diagnosed with lymphoma (including CLL) each year.
  • Every 37 minutes someone in Canada is diagnosed with lymphoma.
  • Lymphoma is the most common blood cancer.
  • Lymphoma is the 5th most common cancer in Canada.
  • There are more than 80 different subtypes of lymphoma – each with its own symptoms, clinical course and treatment options.
  • Main symptoms of lymphoma include (but are not limited to)
    • Swollen lymph nodes in your neck, armpit or groin
    • Fatigue
    • Unexplained weight loss
    • Drenching night sweats
    • Persistent itch on your body
    • Intermittent fevers
  • Viral infections are a risk factor for some lymphoma subtypes. Infection with Epstein-Barr Virus is associated with cases of peripheral T-cell lymphoma, extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and classical Hodgkin lymphoma.
