Lymphoma Canada's Peer Mentoring Program
We are proud to announce the launch of our Peer Mentoring Program, a program designed for patients and their loved ones. Whether you are newly diagnosed, a "veteran" lymphoma surivor, or somewhere in-between, this program has something to offer you.
Are you a patient who has been wanting to speak with another patient with the same diagnosis? Do you wonder how other patients have coped with challenges like yours? Are you a spouse or parent who wishes they could ask questions of another person who has been in your shoes? Or are you at a place in your journey where you feel ready to give back and share your experiences with others who have questions? Then the Peer Mentoring Program may be for you!
The Peer Mentoring Program was developed for patients and/or caregivers, to provide a means for them to connect with other patients and/or caregivers to discuss aspects of their lymphoma experience that are unique to them. Many patients and caregivers find that in addition to the care and support they receive from their family, friends, and professionals, they still benefit from connecting with others who have been where they are.
Our Peer Mentoring Program facilitates a connection for patients who wish to speak with other patients, and for caregivers who would like to speak with other caregivers, by matching requested aspects of their circumstances so that they may ask questions, learn about others' experiences, and gain the helpful insights that they are seeking.
The Peer Mentoring Program is individualized; matches can be made based on one, two, or several criteria - depending on your own needs - incuding type of lymphoma, gender, age, geographical location, family circumstances, job challenges, and other factors. Connections can be made through email and/or telephone conversations and are completely confidential. A connection can take the form of a short one-time interaction or it can last longer; the program is designed to meet your needs.
The Peer Mentors are all trained volunteers who have lived through a lymphoma experience, and wish to use their experience in a way that can help others. Mentors are supervised and Mentors and "Mentees" alike have the support of our staff throughout the match, should they desire.
If you are interested in hearing more about the Peer Mentoring Program, would like to be matched with a Peer Mentor, or would like to apply to be a Peer Mentor, please contact Tanja Loeb, Director of Operations and Programs at 905-858-5957 ext 224 or toll free at -866-659-5556.
