In February 2017, I began to feel a dull pain in my lower abdomen. Soon after, I was waking up drenched in sweat, and the weight started to fall off. I told myself it was nothing serious — but week after week, my body kept sending warning signs.
After several misdiagnoses and countless tests, I finally received an answer I could hardly believe: I had a massive lymphoma growing in my abdomen.
Finding Strength in Support
My name is Judy. I’m a heart and lung transplant recipient, a fighter, and now, a survivor of Non-Hodgkin’s Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.
My cancer grew significantly before I received a proper diagnosis. My treatment was intense — chemotherapy, painful injections, and a surgery I never thought I’d survive. It was physically and emotionally exhausting, and yet, I knew I had to keep fighting.
The fight was lonely at times, but I was never truly alone. My family, friends, community, and curling teammates lifted me up when I needed it most.
And through Lymphoma Canada, I found something just as vital — knowledge and hope. Their webinars and educational resources helped me understand my diagnosis, explore treatment options, and regain a sense of control. Knowing that there were treatment options for my lymphoma gave me the courage to face each day with determination.
A New Beginning
Even after completing treatment, restarting life has not been simple. I move carefully, rebuild my strength, and slowly reclaim my independence. But I am living proof that with support, education, and access to the right resources, survival is possible.
I share my story in the hope that it inspires others — to seek help early, to stay informed, and to never lose hope.
Thank you for helping me and supporting Lymphoma Canada’s research program. Your donation today will make a direct impact to the lives of lymphoma patients like me.
Judy – Lymphoma Survivor
Judy’s journey is a powerful reminder of why Lymphoma Canada exists. Every day, we work to transform patient lives by funding research, providing vital resources, and supporting patients and families. However, we cannot do this alone. Your support is essential to ensuring that lymphoma patients receive the care, research, and community they need to fight and survive. Your generosity helps Lymphoma Canada continue to create a future where lymphoma is met with hope and not fear.
Lymphoma Canada is the only registered charity in Canada focused solely on lymphoma cancers. For over 27 years, we’ve been a lifeline for thousands of lymphoma patients. With your support, we can help more patients like Judy. Thank you for joining us on this journey!
