Welcome to the Southwestern Ontario Chapter

Stronger together

If you’re dealing with lymphoma, you don’t have to do it alone. The Southwestern Ontario Chapter is a local volunteer-based group run by and for the lymphoma community. We are lymphoma patients, family members, and caregivers in the Waterloo Region and surrounding area. We meet regularly to connect with others who face the same challenges. To learn about treatments, share our experiences and offer mutual support. To be stronger together.

Get connected. Join us at our next meeting.

Educational Event – The Immune Response and Risks in Lymphoma and CLL

If you have been diagnosed with lymphoma or chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), your immune system may not work as well as it should because your lymphocytes (type of white blood cell) are not working properly. Patients can therefore be immunocompromised, and your body may not be able to fight against infections as well as it used to. Understanding more about your immune system as a lymphoma or CLL patient will help you to learn the risks of your blood cancer and better prepare against them.

Dr. Shelly McNeil, a Professor of Medicine and Deputy Head/Chief in the Department of Medicine at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia Health Authority, the Deputy Director at the Canadian Center for Vaccinology and a Consultant on Adult Infectious Diseases at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, is an experienced infectious disease and vaccinology specialist. This evening, she will share with us how the immune system works in lymphoma/CLL, the risks, and how patients can protect themselves.
