Kristen Raises Awareness and Funds for Lymphoma Canada

A year ago, if you saw Kristen Christie running, “there was either someone chasing me or shoes were on sale.”

Now Kristen is training for her first half marathon to celebrate friend Heather Ruscillo, 43, an almost 12-year survivor of stage IIIB Hodgkin lymphoma. The clincher: Kristen has only known Heather for six years.

“I didn’t know her when she was sick. Had she not fought the way she did and received the treatment she did, I would never have had Heather in my life.”

Kristen is running the half marathon at Florida’s Magic Kingdom and Epcot Theme Parks in February 2014 “in full princess style – complete with tutu and tiara.” She is also seeking sponsorship to help raise awareness about lymphoma and funds for Lymphoma Canada.

“Heather’s family has enriched my family’s life. It seemed fitting to honour Heather and her incredible family and friends for all they did when she was in treatment,” says Kristen. “The great work of Lymphoma Canada also deserves to be supported and recognized. It’s my way to give back in Heather’s honour.”

Kristen chose the Disney Princess Half Marathon because Heather and her family are big Disney fans. “They go there almost every year. If anyone is a princess, it is Heather and her daughters.”

Kristen says that Heather is “full of light and love – and is one of the best friends a girl could have!”

Sponsor Kristen at www.active.com/donate/disneyheather for her half marathon in Heather’s honour and support the work of Lymphoma Canada.
